Fear not for Kanye West’s career as it is blossoming with all of the media attention he is continuing to receive. Will his fans suddenly turn on him and walk away from seeing him perform ever again? Don’t bet on it! Kanye is the crazy Hip Hop artist that we ALL love to hate.
Kanye seems to thrive from bad publicity and loves receiving media attention from bad publicity. Did he go too far this time? Certainly he shocked and hurt Taylor Swift! He stole the media spotlight on purpose just to make the moment about his views. He showed the world what Hip Hop was all about the expressions of feelings?
Why would Kanye do what he did?
He took the microphone from a helpless Taylor Swift and said “Taylor, I’m really happy for you. I’ll let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!”.
As for Beyonce Knowles she did not see that one coming and it had to be one of the MOST embarrassing public scenes of her life. However, Beyonce pulled a very smart PR move by later giving Taylor Swift her well deserved spotlight.
Is Kanye West finished? NO! People will still buy his music and award shows will still request his presences in hopes he will pull a crazy publicity stunt to buzz up ratings. Kanye is the celebrity villain that everyone loves to hate and he loves playing the part. Not every celebrity can be loved.
A celebrity brand is an image and public perception influences the value of the celebrity brand. Make them hate you and they will love you? In the case of Kanye this just may be true.
