MANILA, Philippines – “It should feel like luxury in your hands.”

This is what editor-in-chief David Celdran said when asked to describe Vault, his new magazine under ABS-CBN Publishing Inc. (API). Just like the compartment of valuables it is named after, Vault features all things expensive — from cars and watches to food and travel destinations.

“It’s a magazine but it looks more like a book,” said Celdran, who is also the host of ANC’s luxury lifestyle magazine program, “Executive Class.”

Vault contains sections dedicated to automobiles, aviation, new establishments, equipment, travel, timepieces, art, style, grooming, property and fine dining.

It skips the bikini-clad ladies usually found in popular men’s magazines and goes for “sophisticated women” and “women with substance.”

“It’s what’s inside that makes a difference,” said Ernesto Lopez, head of API. He added that it took them more than a year to complete this new project.

The premiere issue of Vault promises to take readers to different places — Basel, Switzerland for a luxury watch and jewelry fair which featured Rolex, Hublot and Patek Philippe; Barcelona, Spain to admire stunning Art Nouveau architecture, 5-star hotels and exquisite Spanish tapas; Italy to search for the perfect bespoke suit; and Saint Emilion, France to sample fine wines.

In Manila, the magazine celebrates 60 years of Mercedes Benz in the country, test drives Audi’s latest luxury sedan, samples different cuts of steak, and checks out Rizal Rep. Jack Duavit’s “ultimate” analog listening room.

“It’s the responsibility of the journalist to look for something. It’s a matter of sniffing out the good story,” Celdran said.

Aside from giving its readers a taste of luxury, Vault hopes to draw from the past to create new icons of today’s age. The quarterly magazine is available at Fully Booked bookstores and news stands nationwide, and can also be downloaded on Zinio. — Edited by Karen Flores, abs-cbnNEWS.com
