Luxury retailer Barneys New York, long known for its exceptional merchandise and superb service, has elevated the shopping experience to a new level of comfort and convenience with the new Infinea Tab from Infinite Peripherals, Inc. (IPC). Barneys is one of the first retailers in the nation to utilize the just-debuted Infinea Tab, which adds a 1D or 2D barcode scanner and magnetic stripe reader to an Apple® iPad®2 to enable retail associates to conduct customer checkout from anywhere in the store, eliminating waiting in line.
“Instead of customers standing across from associates at the cash wrap, they now can stand next to each other and progress through the transaction together,” said Artie Byrne, the director of financial and store systems at Barneys New York. “The greater level of interaction gives us an opportunity to offer other items or services that are a good fit.”
Working with a point-of-sale (POS) software application, the handheld Infinea Tab can accept signatures and wirelessly print or email receipts, conduct inventory operations and corporate communications and access the Internet and Intranet. An optional Bluetooth® and a RFID reader are also available.
The smallest combination barcode and magnetic stripe reader for the iPad can now be experienced firsthand at the flagship Barneys New York store at 660 Madison Ave. (Madison and 60th St).
“The ability to employ the iPad as a selling device has also enabled us to move cash wraps from the floor, opening up space for more merchandise,” said Byrne. ”And the Infinea Tab lets us take the sale to the customer and engage them in new ways.”
Barneys also utilizes the Linea-pro for the iPod® touch 4th generation; and IPC offers a Lin?a-pro for the iPhone® 4/4S.
Numerous major retailers in the United States are moving to mobile POS with IPC’s Linea-pro and Infinea Tab, helping to transform shopping, drive traffic and increase customer conversion rates.
