For the man who was instrumental in ending apartheid in South Africa and who rose from prisoner to president celebrating his 90th birthday ONE time is not enough! He has made a series of public appearances around the world over the past few weeks he is expected to spend the day at his village home with his family.

The South African flag will be flown outside Edinburgh, Bristol and Plymouth council buildings, giant birthday cards will be made available for the public to sign in Nottingham and Manchester, and there will be parties featuring South African cuisine and dancing in Cambridge, Leicester, Leeds, Reading and Glasgow, from whence a container filled with 50,000 school books will be shipped to South Africa.
He received birthday wishes from countries including Malawi, Colombia, Afghanistan and Norway with contributors invited to make a donation to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
