The right to freedom of speech and having a mind to value what you believe in is the true message to be learned from Miss California. While others may have felt offended by what Miss California, Carrie Prejean said about gay marriage. She made a strong PR statement about family values, a missing characteristic in today’s society.

Perez Hilton quizzed Miss California on her gay marriage stance during the Q & A portion of the Miss USA pageant several days ago.

Her response: “I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anyone out there but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman.”

What is most important is that Miss California acknowledged the beauty of choice and spoke about what she valued and believed in. Being upset with Miss California for having a personal preference is not fair, without preference there could be no choice.

Open your mind to freedom of belief and speech. You have a right to not value what I believe and I have a right to not value what you believe. We can agree to disagree but let’s not fallout..
