What is it that makes these teenagers tick? What is it that makes America tick? Looks like ABC Family has scored big with “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” which in its Tuesday debut averaged a 0.9/3 in 18-49 and 2.82 million viewers. For cable this was the largest audience to date for a series premier on cable and largest crowd on cable during the 8 o’clock hour.
Why so much buzz about “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”? Well, it most likely scares every parent on the universe, a controversial “Teenager,” whose main character is a 15-year-old girl gets pregnant on the night she loses her virginity. I think most parents and all teens in America want to stay tuned and find out what happens next and what not to let happen next or even what to look for next. Can’t help but think about what went wrong with Jamie Lynn Spears on this one.
Now parents are on the hunt, hoping for more answers! They want to be a fly on the wall, maybe learn more about what beat their kids are drumming to. They turn to teen icon Miley Cyrus to learn what kids are listening to and what exactly does the music means. The family unit is now displayed as a media playground. Will parents have to turn to media resources to understand their teens? I sure hope not!
